EQUINOXS
SETTING; at the top of raffles city, equinox offers one of singapore’s best views through its very high windows, and dinning room feels spacious.
Food; while the food is billed as pre-asian and pure western, the 14 main-course dishes are predominantly western-style with asian ingredients and touches added.
Under ‘pure asian ‘, there are dishes like miso cod with potatoes, edamame beans and mirin dressing, which as well executed if a bit bland; braised wagyu beef in Chinese spices with shitake mushrooms and bok choy, which was flavourful and tender.
‘pure western ‘ dishes include crispy skinned baby seabass with shellfish brochette ( the fish was over cooked and quite tasteless ) and tenderloin of beef with mushrooms and chestnut puree that was hearty.
Desserts are surprisingly limited to a selection of sorbets and ice creams. The food is tasty and well-presented but nothing stands out as memorable.
Wine; a wide selection from major regions is available, and the wines by glass list is extensive with some 20 varieties from wich to choose.
Service; the equinox staff are attentive and courteous.
